While honouring our outer physical health and beauty is important, we mustn’t forget to nourish our inner self. After all, how we treat our body on the inside, reflects hugely on the outside.
In order to look and feel our best, we wanted to share with you some foods that can easily be incorporated into your daily routine to encourage wellness.
Blueberries These antioxidant abundant “super berries” are perfect for an on the go grab food. Vitamin C here we come! Simply top on a breakfast bowl or add to a vanilla bean and banana chia seed smoothie. A nutrition energy hit in an instant.
Avocado This highly nutritious superfood is all super go go go on the healthy fat content; great for the right amounts of healthy fats for the cholesterol and heart. On the physical body side, this green smushy number is delicious to eat alone, in salads or with chilli flakes on toast, or mash it up and use as a face mask to smooth and refine the skin, leaving it glowing!
Lemons are one of the most versatile fruits used in our culinary recipes and often in our beauty products/routines too. Packed full of vitamin C which aids skin quality and digestion, lemons also help with a number of bodily issues such as constipation and effective for respiratory ailments too. Try swapping a caffeine drink in the morning for a hot water and lemon to deep cleanse the system.
Cranberries These little red berries are bursting with antioxidants which cleanse the blood and therefore act as a natural detox especially around the walls of the liver. Even though they’re sweet, they can be added to a salad comprising a bunch of green leaves, grated carrots and almonds. Budding with colour, flavour and giving your body a boost all at the same time, cranberries are a hit over and over again.
Watermelon Due to its diuretic properties, this colourful and incredibly juicy fruit cleanses the kidneys and stimulates the liver functions. It’s perfect in fruit smoothies or juices; try adding it to a blend of pineapple, banana, coconut water, yoghurt, chai seeds and lime juice or in a fruit salad or simply on its own.
Asparagus Asparagus is low in both carbs and calories and loaded with vitamin A, a number of B vitamins, C, E and is particularly helpful in assisting fertility and cardiovascular health. Simply grill with organic butter, rock salt and pepper for a delicious starter to a summer time dinner.
Aubergine These purple beauties are a great source of calcium and fibre. They contain calcium, antioxidants and vitamins such as B6, C and K. They’re also full of minerals such as potassium, magnesium and phosphorus and because they are virtually calorie free, you can eat away to your hearts delight. Serve them chargrilled with balsamic vinegar and olive oil alongside a serving of vegan crème fraiche and grilled baby tomatoes basil leaves and rocket.
Runner beans versatile in so many ways! With few calories and also a great source of fibre, they contain high levels of vitamin A, B6 and C which helps the body to fight against infection. To eat? Grab a handful of beans and chop length ways then add a handful of chopped radishes and toss with the juice of a lemon before adding chilli salt and pepper and hey presto, a garden dish fit for a king or queen.
Nuts When it comes to nutrition, nuts are one of the best sources of protein, essential fats and fibre.
Opt for almonds if to improve the appearance of your skin as they contain excellent levels of vitamin E or the pecan nut if you’re tired. Yes, it’s true. The pecans levels of vitamin B3 can help battle tiredness as the vitamin helps the body access the energy in the foods we consume. Walnuts however may be the ultimate choice if you have high cholesterol as their mono-unsaturated, heart-friendly fat contents can lower this in the body. They’re fantastic as a healthy snack when you’re on the run, sprinkled on a salad for extra crunch or blended into a smoothie for a nutty flavour.
Quinoa an ancient grain used centuries ago by the Inca tribes in the Andes. So, what’s the hype all about? It’s pure protein which means it’s fantastic for vegetarians and vegans as it possesses all the essential amino acids our bodies aren’t able to produce on their own. This multipurpose fluffy number can be added to salads and soups and whizzed up in no time. Try mixing quinoa with small florets of grilled cauliflower, coriander, pomegranate and cumin seeds followed by a sprinkling of oil and topped with a shake of paprika.
Easy ways to get your glow going from the inside ! As Wayne Fields said in his nursery rhyme, “the best six doctors anywhere and no one can deny it, are sunshine, water, rest, and air, exercise and diet. These six will gladly you attend, if only you are willing, your mind they’ll ease, your will they’ll mend, and charge you not a shilling”.

it’s hard to believe how much the world has changed since we celebrated the start of the new decade. January seems like a lot more than five months ago! Since then, we’ve spent weeks sheltering in our houses, finding new ways to work and socialise, watching our world shrinking around us and our travel plans dissolving...
